On May 8, 2026, a working meeting of the Naftogaz group (Operations Director M.O. Kolisnyk) and the Gas Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Director H.V. Zhuk) was held. The role of natural gas and the prospects for the development of the heat and electricity generation industry in the context of the difficult situation in the energy sector of Ukraine and the European green transition were discussed.
Areas of cooperation between Naftogaz Group and the Gas Institute have been identified on the following issues:
– increasing the efficiency of natural gas use at electricity and heat generation facilities. Introduction of hybrid energy sources of integrated use of RES and natural gas, in particular cogeneration plants and heat pumps;
– attracting local and alternative fuels, balancing them with centralized electricity, heat and gas supply;
– decarbonization of gas-consuming energy facilities by capturing carbon dioxide and producing synthetic gases.
The participants of the meeting agreed on systematic cooperation and the formation of technical proposals for the Naftogaz Group by the Gas Institute.
