On November 20, 2025, the Association of Power Engineers of Ukraine, the Institute of General Power Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the Institute of Gas of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine held a roundtable meeting “Transformation of the Energy System. Challenges and Approaches”, at which the principles and practical steps for the transformation and decarbonization of the energy system were discussed.
The following delivered welcoming speeches:
- Oleh Dudkin, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Head of the Secretariat of the Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine;
- Vitalii Suray, Head of the Housing and Utilities Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine;
- Olena Lenska, Head of the Alternative Energy Development Department of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Efficiency of Ukraine.
The opening speech was given by Vitaliy Babak, academician, director of the Institute of General Power Engineering of the NAS of Ukraine.
The following reports were made on the topic under discussion:
- Principles of developing the energy sector of the future. Oleksandr Sukhodolia, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Head of the Department of Critical Infrastructure, Energy and Environmental Security of the Center for Security Studies of the National Institute for Strategic Studies.
- Transformation and decarbonization of Ukraine’s energy system under the influence of international obligations and national circumstances. Oleksandr Diachuk, Ph.D., Leading Researcher at the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine.
- EU Strategy for Energy System Integration. Yevhenii Nikitin, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Leading Researcher at the Institute of Gas of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
- State and prospects of the transformation of the national electric power system. Yurii Bondarenko, Vice-President of the Public Service “CIGRE-Ukraine”.
- Biogas and biomethane as factors of energy stability and carbon neutrality. Hennadii Zhuk, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Director of the Gas Institute of the NAS of Ukraine.
- Heating/cooling systems are an important component of the future decarbonized energy system. Oleksandr Sigal, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of the Institute of Technical Thermophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Member of the Board of AEE Ukraine.
- The methodology of full life cycle assessment is a tool for strategic energy planning. Oleksandr Zeniuk, Vice-President of the Public Association “CIGRE-Ukraine”.
- Development of regional energy: problems and prospects. Oleksandr Novoseltsev, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Head of the Department of the Institute of General Energy of the NAS of Ukraine.
- The role of gas infrastructure in the decarbonization of energy and the integrated energy system. Kyrylo Kostohryz, Ph.D., Deputy Director of the Gas Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
- Ways and technologies for using municipal waste to meet the city’s energy needs. Kostiantyn Pyanykh, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Head of the Department of the Gas Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
