This brochure presents the investment project “Creation of a modular installation to increase the efficiency of a biogas power plant” of the Gas Institute of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine. The project was developed within the framework of the targeted interdisciplinary initiative “Development of Methodological Foundations for the Economic Substantiation of Investment Scientific and Technical Projects of the NAS of Ukraine.”

The edition provides a comprehensive economic justification for creation of a modular installation at a biogas power plant operating at a municipal solid waste landfill, designed to improve the plant’s efficiency by increasing the generation of electricity and heat, as well as the production of liquefied CO2. The project offers a ready-to-implement model for the commercialization of scientific R&D, bridging the gap between fundamental science and market demand.

The publication presents:

  • the main principles and development trends of global and national markets for biogas and cogeneration equipment;
  • the project roadmap, the key commercialization models for the Gas Institute’s innovative solutions aimed at improving the efficiency of biogas power plants, and their market potential;
  • the structure of capital expenditures (CAPEX) and operational expenditures (OPEX) of the project;
  • financial analysis of the project, including scenario-based forecasting of profitability, cash flow dynamics, and investment performance indicators (NPV, IRR, PI);
  • technical solutions within the scope of the economic feasibility study, and an analysis of the socio-economic benefits and costs of implementing the project;
  • generation of multiplicative effects for the national economy and the fiscal implications of the investment project’s execution.

The publication aims to facilitate the commercialization of scientific developments by the Gas Institute of the NAS in improving the efficiency of bioenergy generation systems; it may also serve as an analytical tool for justifying and supporting investment decision-making.

This edition is intended for potential investors, business representatives, government authorities, the scientific community, and other stakeholders.
